Management at the double-decker Staybridge Suites and Crowne Plaza hotel on Oxford Road have shunned the traditional job interview in favour of a process that will identify star candidates with the most personality, creativity and passion.
“Having hospitality experience is not essential,” said Andrew Fletcher, general manager of the 19-storey property which is due to open this spring.
“What we are looking for is true individuals who display heaps of personality, real enthusiasm and a genuine desire to make all our guests feel as welcome as possible.
“At the same time, we will be looking out for behavioural patterns in each candidate that mirrors the values of the Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites brands, and the parent company InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).
“We need to seek out those star individuals who we believe will be able to deliver the best customer service.
As such having no previous hotel industry experience is less of a priority than having the right personality to help create a welcoming environment where guests can feel truly at home.”

With up to 50 positions available, aspiring candidates will be invited to one of four Audition Days, where they will be observed working through several creative group tasks including customer service scenarios, creative construction tasks using Lego and a Beat the Clock challenge.
A Ready Steady Cook-style Audition Day will also be used to recruit the full team of chefs and kitchen employees.
They will be observed by newly appointed Executive Head Chef Nathaniel Farrel, who will lead the team at the Crowne Plaza’s 120 cover restaurant The Laureate.
