Cumbria sale shows ‘strong appetite’ for high-end properties in region

crown hotelSPECIALIST business property adviser Christie & Co has sold The Crown Hotel in Wetheral, near Carlisle, following the retirement of previous owner David Byers after 17 years.

It has been acquired for an undisclosed sum by Variegate Properties which plans further investment in the property.

The four-star property has 51 bedrooms in keeping with the hotel’s traditional style. There is a reception area, bar and restaurant as well as a modern extension to the rear with event and conference space, two gyms, a pool and spa.

Ryan Lynn, Associate Director at Christie & Co, said: “The hotels market in the North is strong and we are seeing high levels of interest ranging from local operators to international investors.

“The sale of The Crown Hotel demonstrates the strong appetite for high end hotel properties in the region. We congratulate Mr Byers on his future retirement as we continue to work with him on the sale of his other hotel, Beaufort Park in North Wales.

Christie & Co had sought offers in excess of £3,750,000.
