Built in 1871, the hotel has 11 en suite letting bedrooms with views over the surrounding countryside.
Each room is decorated with original period features and contemporary furnishings and named after one of the many great writers and poets who have been inspired by the Lake District, most notably William Wordsworth.
The hotel has consistently been featured in the Good Hotel Guides and has achieved numerous Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence awards, having been described as a “haven of peace.”
With secluded lawned gardens stretching down to the River Rothay, numerous walks start from the doorstep of the hotel, and the towns of Ambleside and Windermere are only a stone’s throw away.
The property also included a three-bedroom owner’s cottage and a conservatory restaurant overlooking the garden.
Tom O’Malley, Business Agent in Christie & Co’s Manchester office who handled the sale, said: “The Grasmere Hotel came to the market confidentially and with a strong business in a superb location, it was only a matter of time before a buyer was found and the deal was completed.”
