beatles telegramTHE Shankly Hotel in Liverpool is putting on display for the first time a rare telegram from The Beatles to the legendary football manager after whom the property is named.

It wishes Bill Shankly and Liverpool Football Club luck in the 1965 FA Cup Final against Leeds, which the team went on to win what would be their first ever FA Cup for the club.

The telegram, which is going on display from the beginning of September, reads: “Best of luck lads we’ll be watching on the tele. John Paul George and Ringo”.

Shankly’s grandson Chris Shankly-Carline, who is co-founder of the hotel, said: “I still can’t quite believe we have this amazing hotel which honours my grandad.

“He touched so many lives so it means everything that we can give fans, friends and family a place to come that pays tribute to his achievements for the city.”

“The Shankly Hotel is everything and more than I ever imagined it would be and its first two years have been incredibly successful so it’s a great achievement for myself and the Shankly family along with everyone at Signature Living,” added Chris. @copy NewspaperTimes - All rights reserved
