The proposal is for an 85-bedroom five-storey hotel with a restaurant and bar to be built on a temporary private car park behind Marks & Spencer in Market Street, Douglas. The site is owned by Market Street, which is also part of the Dandara group.
The ground floor would house the reception area, luggage room, vending machines, bar, restaurant, kitchen and staff areas. At the rear of the site, there would be a terrace on the first floor with gated access. It would have a cycle store.
In the design statement, Dandara says: “The area in Market Street already exhibits many diverse architectural styles. Any building proposed within this location should therefore be kept simple in terms of massing and finishes.”
In the transport statement it says that no on-site parking is proposed “on the basis there are a number of public car parks nearby that would be within a convenient 10 minute walking tome of the application site.”
