This year’s event features more than 300 exhibitors, thousands of products, hundreds of special offers and 65 live food and drink demos from top chefs, leading brands and experts in their craft.
“The Northern hospitality scene is continuing to thrive, and NRB has developed to reflect that,” said Thom Hetherington, CEO of organisers Holden Media.
“This year we have Gary Neville and Michael O’Hare headlining the NRB Debate, big name line-ups in all the theatres, plus a booming NRB Fringe which sees more events than ever before spilling out across the city.
“Of course this is a professional trade event for buyers and decision makers, but the social side is important too. It’s about people, just like the hospitality industry itself.”

Chef Live also provides a platform for the winner of the North West Young Chef of the Year competition, sponsored by Essential Cuisine, Daniela Tucci, currently at The Art School Liverpool. Using local and seasonal ingredients, judges said she delivered “a fantastic menu executed perfectly”.
Several lucky visitors will have the chance to sit up at the Chef’s Table and watch the chefs produce their dishes, ask questions and taste the food at the end.
Surrounded by specialist, artisan suppliers, the Market Kitchen Theatre is all about skills, expertise and artistry.
Demos include The Celebration of Great British Beef, Sourdough – The Art, the Craft and the Culture with The Bread Factory, A Real Taste of Thailand with Chilli Banana, Goat Meat – The New Kid on the Block with Grafene and Cabrito Goat meat, Get Your Fish On with The Seafood Pub Co, The Anatomy of a Sausage with Bobby’s Bangers and Unagi Kabayaki (Freshwater Eel) with Umezushi.
Grape & Grain
Sessions include Wines Off the Beaten Track with Majestic Commercial, My Favourite Beers with Spicy Food with Bundobust’s Marko Husak, The Art of Food and Wine Pairing with Miles Corish MW and Steven Smith from Freemasnons at Wiswell, Weird, Wonderful and Affordable Italians with Nick Fildes, Masterclass with Beer Bingo with Sharp’s Brewery and Life After Prosecco with Frances Bentley, Individual Restaurants.
Craft Beer Quarter
Sponsored by Biopac, it features a wide selection of ales, IPAs, bitters and stouts from 12 artisan brewers from the North and across the UK including Red Willow brewery, Heathwick, Big Hug Brewing, American Craft Beer Co, The Cotswold Cider Company, Long Arm Brewing Company, The Cheshire Brew House, Freedom Brewery and The Innis and Gunn Brewing Company.
Whitley Neill Gin Cocktail Competition
The annual NRB cocktail competition, sponsored by Whitley Neill Gin, offers one talented bartender the chance to win a trip to South Africa. See the finalists battle it out in the Drinks Live theatre at NRB17 on Wednesday ,22 March.
Drinks Live & Spirit Room
Drinks Live is the hub for bartenders, the Drinks Live theatre hosts a line-up of tutored tastings led by some of the best names in the business including Indie brands Sam Hargreaves, Amathus Drinks Jon Anders, Rhum St Barth’s Mikaël Silvestre, Emporia Brands’ Gavin McGowan Madoo and Teeling Whiskey’s Kevin Furley.
Adjacent to Drinks Live is the Spirit Room. Over 20 curated spirits brands allow you to taste and sample their gins, whiskeys, and more. 2017 brands include Curio Spirits Company, Warner Edwards Distillery, Whyte and Mackay, William Grant & Sons, Masons Yorkshire Gin, Old J Spiced Rum and more.
Taking place alongside NRB17 on Tuesday 21 March, the NRB Debate, sponsored by Manchester Metropolitan University, sees an expert panel discuss how the right board structure and non-executive directors can unlock the potential of the North’s most talented food and drink entrepreneurs.
Speakers include Peter Martin of CGA Peach, Joycelyn Neve of Seafood Pub Company, Kieron Lawton of Palatine Private Equity LLP and Nick de Souza from Tariff & Dale.
The Debate concludes with an exclusive interview with headline speakers Gary Neville and Michael O’Hare discussing how GG Hospitality’s huge ambition and fierce commitment to the North will have a unique impact on the region’s hospitality industry.

NRB Top Fifty
The sixth NRB Top Fifty awards, in association with Kuits Solicitors, will be revealed live at NRB. The awards celebrate the fifty top hospitality operators in the North and three outstanding achievement award winners will be crowned.
