The pub is the second in the chain to come to the Fylde coast after The Cherry Tree (pictured) opened on Vicarage Lane, in Marton, in August.
Work is due to begin building the new two-storey pub on Fleetwood Road North before the end of the year.
The company plans to build the new premises, with a children’s play area and dedicated parking, on an unused greenfield site around 1.5 miles from the town centre.
A Hungry Horse spokesman said: “We are of course very pleased to be pressing ahead with our plans for a new Hungry Horse in Thornton and hope to start building work in the next two months.”
Land next to the site, close to the junction with Bourne Road, is also earmarked for development, with a Sainsbury’s supermarket and residential properties planned for the surrounding area.
The spokesman added: “Hungry Horse offers a wide choice of family-friendly food and drink at outstanding prices and we have had positive feedback from the local community for this new pub and restaurant.
“We remain on track to open in late spring 2014 and will be recruiting for the 40 full and part-time jobs the pub will create nearer to the time.”
Hungry Horse has more than 200 pubs across the UK and the pub in Thornton will be the fifth in Lancashire.
