Student support

Liverpool John Moores University logoHOTELIERS in Liverpool are teaming up with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) to help provide students an insight into the hospitality industry.

Members of the Liverpool Hoteliers Association are giving lectures on their work as hotel general managers, as well as inviting students to their properties to provide a taster of a hotel career.

Chairman of Liverpool Hoteliers Association (LHA) and general manager of Hard Days Night hotel, Mike Dewey, said: “We are delighted to team up with LJMU as these students have a real passion for the industry and you can really tell that their heart and soul is in it.

“They want to learn everything about what we do as general managers and, as an association, we felt it was important to do all we could to prepare them and to teach them about how it all works and what happens on a day-to-day basis.”

Drew Li, centre leader for tourism, events & food studies at LJMU, said: “This partnership is great for the students as work experience and an insight into the industry are the first things employers look for from them when they get their first job.

“As well as getting a degree at the end of three years, they are getting invaluable knowledge from the best in the business and a real hands-on insight of the tourism industry.”

The Liverpool Hoteliers Association formed nine years ago and provides support and networking opportunities for managers and owners of hotels in the Liverpool area.
